Green My Parents:
A Social Media Movement
March 25, 2023
Tom Feegel's forthcoming book, GreenMyParents, which is due out on Earth Day this year, and the GreenMyParents YOUth social media movement can be outstanding resources for every parent, educator and student across America, according to Jim McGrath, president of the Green Charter Schools Network and executive director of the Green Schools National Network.
The vision of the Green Charter Schools Network is for every person to be environmentally literate and to practice and promote sustainability in their community. The educators, environmental leaders, parents and grandparents who founded the GCSNet and are designing green charter schools throughout the United States recognize that our role is to inspire young people to change their communities.
GreenMyParents complements our work because Feegel recognizes that all public schools serve as laboratories where students experiment with the principles of democracy and leadership, make their own choices and begin to peacefully balance competing values among their friends and teachers. GreenMyParents is a valuable resource and is instrumental in developing a green-school movement across America by focusing on the everyday personal decisions young people make; engaging youth to work collaboratively with their parents, other adults and peers; and providing a framework for discussing differing values and priorities to develop collective goals and common expectations for behavior.
